WHAT DO PURPLE GAZING BALLS MEAN?

Purple is a color traditionally associated with magic, mystery, and royalty. Before the mid-19th century, purple was reserved for the wealthy, obtained from a compound called murexide (derived from the excrement of certain Peruvian birds) or from a rare Scandinavian lichen. The resulting color was more of a light mauve, and its production was so costly that it was reserved for the affluent.

In the second half of the 19th century, an English chemistry student named William Perkin, while trying to synthesize quinine from coal tar, unexpectedly created the first synthetic dye: mauveine. Perkin, with a sharp business sense, quickly realized that this color, which was much more intense than any existing ones, would also be much cheaper.

Determined to capitalize on it, he founded Perkins & Sons and managed to democratize purple for all social classes. Returning to gazing balls, a garden adorned with purple gazing globes will exude an atmosphere of refinement, mystery, and a touch of elitism. Purple gazing balls also pair well with pink, blue, or iridescent ones, creating a decoration that borders on the sublime.
